I'm pleased to write about our 2nd Introductory workshop for Newly registered Doctors. Which was held on the 21st of February 2015 in Carlton Hotel, Dublin.
The Event was the outcome of the continuous concern of SDUI about facilitating the incorporation of our Sudanese doctors in the Irish healthcare system. A great effort was made by Senior Sudanese doctors already practicing in Ireland to give guidance, Career advice & answer questions of their Junior colleges. Part of the lectures presented at the event were held by Irish Doctors& professionals who devoted kindly some of their time to transfer valuable knowledge, tips & Advices to us too.
We started with an introductory speech by the President of SDUI, Dr. Sohel Ahmed. Followed by the plan of the Academic office of the SDUI. The Lectures ranged from topics like how to write an Audit & How to get your Scientific paper published; a demanding issue for Doctors to maintain their Registration in the IMC & to guarantee good career development.
Most of our junior doctors find it a challenging area & requested more focus on such topics. A valuable lecture was presented about how to write a CV properly & Interview skills. Something that may sound simple at the first glance, but we were enlightened by very interesting advices & Tips. Irish Taxation system might be ambiguous to any new doctor, an interesting lecture to explain it as well as the pay slip in a simple way was enjoyed by most of us.
The specialty discussion at the end was a great chance for doctors to sit together and get a one to one advice, raise questions & share their experience. A plan was made to lengthen this interaction & create internet groups divided by specialty. We expect more cooperation from senior Sudanese consultants & will work on linking the participants by them.
About twenty seven Doctors Participated in the event. We asked them to give us their opinion, suggestion & topics of interest for upcoming events. Our top popular topics were "CV Writing" & "Understanding the pay slip", 82 % of participants rated it Excellently. Not far from it lays the Audit cycle, life in Ireland, how to publish a scientific paper and finally the specialty discussion. They suggested more advertising for our events, Dedicating more time to each of the above topics & organizing more similar events.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated in the 2nd academic workshop, my colleges in the SDUI, the valued speakers and, of course, the doctors who attended.
