I would like to start by thanking all of you who attended and actively participated in the discussion and elections and who were unable to attend due to their commitments. It was a good meeting which brought doctors from across different generations, locations and specialties from all over the country to meet, discuss, critique the EC and appoint new members.
After an introduction and welcoming attendants by Dr Asaad Elabbas, the out going president, the meeting started by presenting end of term report from the EC offices including the financial report. The major achievements were; reverting registration rules regarding the Sudanese internship, Juniors workshop, September function, sustaining the Dublin House 14 Cherryfield (previously 6 Rockfield).
Then a session about the future of the union shed light on a global initiative "Lifebox" which is intended to provide operating theaters in Sudan with pulse oximeter followed by a report about a recent membership survey to understand what make people to choose to be actively involved or otherwise.
Finally, election of the president - Sohel Jamal - was followed by election of the new EC members who held their first meeting to appoint all officers as follows; Secretary General - Mojahid Elbadry, Treasury - Einas Elsheikh, Membership Officer - Ahmed Bannaga, Social Activities - Einas Eisa, Academic + Juniors Support - Einas Elamin, Newsletter - Mohammed Jamal, IT and 14 Cherryfield - Mohammed Bahari.
I would like to emphasize the importance of the continuation of your support, advice and active participation to help the EC to take the union a step forward and to work in the best interest of the Sudanese doctors in Ireland and our people back home.
